Yesterday was all about bouncing, bad backs and the trimming of teeth. I don’t really want to talk about the green goo that found its way into the Queen’s hair in the middle of the night, via the cat’s hindquarters. You will be pleased to hear that shampoo removed it effectively from hair. We haven’t yet dealt with the duvet and carpet…

The Vicar needed a new desk to counter the middle aged arrival of back issues. So we loaded the kids into the car for an Ikea breakfast (guaranteed to counter a bad back, although possibly not the middle aged spread). As we loaded the car with myriad packages, pleased to have avoided tealights for once, the kids took advantage of a free bungee bouncer outside the front of the store.

Thought I’d share with you all what I consider to be an essential piece of Vicarage equipment: my sugar shaker. I know that it’s another year until you can add this to your Christmas list again, but at £3.05, I reckon you could sneak this in with a cup of coffee and an almond croissant at the Ikea cafe and not notice the strain on your purse.

And without people putting their wet stirring spoons back into the sugar and making coffee sugar clumps (yuck). Each shake delivers a teaspoonful of sugar – easy peasy.

The Curate has recently been appointed as a real life Vicar and we will be moving to a grown up vicarage a few weeks after Christmas. This is all very exciting – the chance to serve God in a new place and put down roots after living in 7 houses, 5 cities and 3 countries in 13 1/2 years of marriage.

We love them but a series of cats has meant that the covers are disgustingly shredded and are suffering from small children induced wear and lots of tear. They are Ikea sofas and Ikea have discontinued the range.

When I asked at a local furniture shop about the cost of replacement covers, figures of £600 per sofa were mentioned, sending me straight for the Ikea catalogue to look at brand new sofas. However, today I discovered this fantastic site where I reckon we’ll be able to recover our entire set for less than the price of a new sofa. Phew! And how eco-friendly too.

Now I just have to decide on colours…
