The Ministry of a Messy House is officially published today. And some people have even started reading it. A few have said they have enjoyed it, which is lovely. I have been praying that the book will be a blessing to readers. But I also want to say that’s it’s okay if you don’t love it with your whole heart.
It’s a bit weird writing a book and realising that it might not be for everyone. And that some people might even hate it or think it heretical or boring. But since I wrote about God’s grace and providence in the book, I can remind myself that his grace is sufficient for me and although I’d love everyone to think my book is the greatest thing evah, it’s okay if they don’t. So don’t be embarrassed if you read it and find it’s not for you. We can still be friends.
You can buy it in lots of places – including here on this blog. And today I’m linking to my special magic author discounts at my publisher’s: 40% off the print copy and 50% off the e-book.
I have been given a few author copies too. I’m afraid that I’ve already allocated the print ones, but I have a couple of e-books to give away. Tell me about the messiest part of your house in the comments and I’ll pick two at random to send you the link to the book. Sadly this isn’t available if you’re in North America – although IVP will be providing an alternative in the near future for anyone in the US or Canada who would like to read it.
I am also doing a proper author-type book signing on Saturday 26th October. I shall be at CLC Bookshop in Birmingham from 11am-2pm, under the Pallisades, just next to the entrance to New Street Station. I shall bring some Can Do Cookies (the recipe is in the book) and my best pen. Do come and say hello if you’re in the city.
The messiest part of our home is my desk! It’s a secretary’s desk which means I can flip up the desk but and no one can see how messy it is!! Genius!
So excited about your book. It has been on my amazon wish list for ages already!

The messiest part of my home!!! Where will I start? Our kitchen as it’s always swamped with school newsletters and partly filed post, our study as it’s always filled with nearly filed post and things that I really must do but haven’t got round to yet, or our children’s bedrooms and playroom which are never tidy unless we sit with them for hours and tidy it with / for them?!
The messiest part of our ‘manse’ is our family room- where our children play and the children of the mums who come to our Friday morning Bible studies. It is a good thing to be able to glimpse a bit of carpet under the carnage!
Delighted to hear this! Can’t wait to get my hands on a copy. Well done Mrs Vic 🙂
I’m going to use that link to buy myself a ‘Christmas present’ which I will then give to my husband for him to hide until December. I love the fact you say that some might find it heretical. I’m intrigued! Wouldn’t put me off in the slightest. There’s rarely someone one agrees with in everything (which is something we Christians would do well to remember a little more, rather than hurting one another because we’re so sure of ourselves).
I’ve been ill and my house is so messy that today I cried. I don’t cry very often. I even surprised myself. But at least it made me realise I need to go back to my GP.
God bless you – I’m really looking forward to reading it 🙂
Messiest part of our house is probably our own bedroom as we tend to stuff things in there to hide the mess!
My 12 year old son’s room: I can’t even remember the colour of the carpet…
The cupboard under the stairs is definitely the messiest place in our house! Things get thrown in there on a regular basis in an attempt to make the rest of the house look a fraction less messy…..
Given that the DDO from my local diocese is coming to visit my very own messy house and my dear wife, who is on the journey to finding out what her ministry will be as a possible vicar’s wife, I thought it would be a jolly good idea to order a copy. And so I have!
The messiest part of our house is easily the garage. We realised when we first moved in that it wasn’t big enough for our car, which has to live on the driveway instead, and we put in the freezer, our bikes and a few other things that didn’t have a home. 8 years on it is piled high with further homeless items, old baby/toddler stuff, things we’re not sure if we need any more, toys we’re thinking of giving away and are waiting to see if the children notice etc, etc. Occasionally there’s a small landslide and I have to excavate to get the freezer door open!
Where do I start, lounge is full of toys (3.5 year old) still sorting two room since moving here 2 years ago, hall OH stuff and mine down one size and I don’t even look in garage
Ironically, the messiest place in my house is my cleaning cupboard! It really needs a good sort out but is quite inaccessable (to keep the contents safe from the tiny people).
Just ordered my copy, can’t wait! Just sorry I won’t be able to get to the signing on the 26th, I’d have loved to thank you personally for making me smile!!
So many options to choose from but if we discount the garage as not my responsibility then it has to be my bedroom – always the last to be tidied and the first to have stuff dumped in when the rest of the house requires a speedy tidy up!!
My sitting room is both the messiest and the tidiest part of my house. During the day my 14-month-old daughter spreads her toys and books everywhere, but a therapeutic part of my evening is putting them all back into their boxes and onto their shelves.
Either the dining table or the sofa. Usually the former as when we need to clear off the latter everything gets dumped on the table. If hubby gets a recommendation from BAP I can see us having to improve.
The messiest part of my house has to be my craft area/desk, it somehow always turns into my dumping ground when sorting out handbags/ homework/ paperwork.
