Some more masonry fell off our church tower sometime between yesterday evening and this morning. Into our car park. Good thing the prayer meeting (when cars were parked out there – and people coming and going) was yesterday. Looks like the continuous rain has been loosening the sandstone. Seems like there’ll be some more work for the steeplejacks. In the meantime Rocky and our hardworking lay reader have been out with stripey tape, putting the carpark out of action.
so glad no cars were damaged – looks a big church – hope it all gets sorted
English Heritage grants open for application now. Closing date 30th June. Tiresome process but may resolve problem once and for all. (If you are grade 2 listed the window for applications is open from 1/7/12 – 30/9/12)
Thanks for the info Som (was that a typo?!). We’re not a listed building, thankfully. Would we still be eligible for an English Heritage grant to repair it?
Not a typo – it reflects where I live. Not listed = no grant from EH, sorry. However, you could try the National Churches Trust, All Churches Trust and approx 65 other potentia funding sources. This Diocesan Office would help you with finding potential sources and submitting applications. It may be worth phoning yours.
