Just remembered: here’s a page with the verses for the Resurrection eggs, so you don’t have to retype. Just print out and cut them up. We Vicar’s wives need all the time-saving help we can get.
We’ll be getting our older two to find the verses in the bible – it’s good practice!
Hi there.
Coming out of lurkdom to say thank you very much for publishing these passages. We decided we would do some readings leading up to Easter and I had been collecting empty Kinder eggs all year for this very reason. Realising almost too late that Easter was soon to be upon us a couple of weeks ago I ended up just working from Mark, taking a couple of key passages earlier on and then dividing up the last three chapters. We have had fifteen readings in all.
But this breakdown of passages is helpful for traversing the Gospels to pick all of the key events. I read somewhere about someone including the great commission as well (on Easter Monday) which I think rounds it off really nicely. So I may fiddle a little with this list to make 15 reading for us for next year. But thank you so much. As you say, we Vicar’s wives need all the time-saving help we can get. This has been a huge help to me and a great encouragement.
Hope you have a most blessed Easter.
Meredith
Hi Meredith and thanks for your encouragement. I’ll pop the kettle on… Fifteen readings sounds great – which ones did you use in Mark? Maybe next year I can post a selection of options of different reading options.
Hi there.
This is what I did with the Mark readings.
Mark 10:32-34 Jesus predicts his death
Mark 11:1-11 Jesus’ triumphal entry
Mark 14:1-11 Jesus annointed at Bethany
Mark 14:12-26 The Lord’s supper
Mark 14:27-31 Jesus predicts Peter’s denial
Mark 14:32-42 Gethsemene
Mark 14:43-52 Jesus arrested
Mark 14:53-65 Before the Sanhedrin
Mark 14:66-72 Peter disowns Jesus
Mark 15:1-15 Jesus before Pilate
Mark 15:16-20 The soldiers mock Jesus
Mark 15:21-32 The crucifixion
Mark 15:33-41 The death of Jesus
Mark 15:42-47 The burial of Jesus
Mark 16:1-8 The resurrection
It worked really well, and fifteen readings was a solid amount, until the final reading. The Mark account of the resurrection doesn’t really give a full picture and certainly doesn’t focus on joy, which is OK for adults who know the fuller picture but not so good for the kids. So we had to beef that up on Sunday morning. As I said, I threw the readings together really quickly and it was only on the last day that my haste caught me out. Well, it is the Word of God so we can expect it to be good!
I hope to do some work on your list of readings, while Easter is still fresh in my mind, and stretch it out to 15, which I think, as I said before, will take in a reading or two after Easter Sunday when Jesus provides evidence of his resurrection and then takes in the great commission. That would round it all out really well.
I’ll send you a copy (so that you can have a play with it too if you like) when I have done it.
That’s brilliant Meredith – thank you. I look forward to seeing the new version.
Hello! It’s a year later! Hope you find this comment. Keeping good with my promise, here is my next version of Easter readings. In the end I have actually gone with 21!! Sixteen up to and including Easter Sunday and then five more to do after Easter because I decided it needs to not stop at the resurrection. I’ve blogged it at the following link. I am sure I will come up with something else for next year!! Just keep this post up on the internet and I will keep you posted.
