Let the wild rumpus begin!
Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak is one of our favourite books to read at bedtime in the Vicarage. My mum read it to me when I was young and our children enjoy it just as much as I did. Recently the Joker came home from school and recited the whole story off by heart, complete with actions.
We thought it was wonderful, and thought you might enjoy it too. I especially love the way his accent wavers between London and the Black Country.
Of course, there are no wild things or rumpuses in the Vicarage. Ever. Honest.
That was lovely!
very impressive… the actions are great!
does this mean that babysitters don’t have to tell stories now?
I thought it was lovely too, Ros. He was ‘too embarrassed’ to perform it in ‘assemberly’ this morning and sat out whilst his classmates went up front. So I’m glad it can be seen here instead.
I’m afraid babysitters still have to do stories, Laurence. But longer ones now. Were you volunteering to sit for us? Please?
I didn’t know he got embarrassed about things like that.
Ah yes, assembly, the four-syllable word.
That is just brilliant! My son is just 3 and loves ‘Where the wild things are’ but I do worry it may give him ideas…
I thought this was absolutely fantastic – well done to the joker. I just wonder if he is copying the Vicar at all? If he is there must be some pretty intersting sermons on a Sunday in your church.
Hi fatprophet. As a loyal wife I can affirm that the Vicar is, of course, a thoroughly engaging and stimulating preacher of God’s Word. He uses slightly fewer hand gestures than the Joker though.
We are inspired! Charlotte is doing a spontaneous rendition of The Tiger who Came to Tea as I type… (not quite as word perfect, and she’s wearing a belly dancer costume, but hey – it’s a start)
Welcome to the Vicarage, Philippa. Lovely to hear of Charlotte’s recital. The Joker would be very jealous of the costume. He loves to dress up too.
At the Harry Potter film, they showed a trailer for the new film of Where the Wild Things Are. Having been very sceptical about the whole idea of filming it, I have to say I was won over. It looks fabulous – just like the book.
Hi Ros. I think this must be why I had an extraordinary number of hits on the blog last week from search engines with ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ as the search term! We’ll have to go and see the movie.
