The house that comes with my husband’s job is a typical Victorian vicarage. It has lots of space – high ceilings and even higher heating bills, you know the sort of thing.
When we first visited it, it was showing its age. It hadn’t been substantially decorated for about twenty years and the rooms looked tired. Many of them had not been used much of late, as the previous vicar was single.
The PCC kindly agreed to completely redecorate the house for us before we moved in, and I had to swiftly choose the colours as the team of decorators moved like locusts through the house. With the size of rooms we have, we don’t have to be afraid of colour.
Obviously, the Queen needed a pink room and she’d picked out a set of bedlinen and curtains in the Next catalogue. Her main motivation for choosing the design was a gorgeous sticker set that came with it.
We’d been moved in a few days when Icklesis came to visit. I’d been putting off the Queen’s request to apply the stickers. And a good thing too:
- Putting up the first curly whirly piece. Much stress for the grown-ups. That stuff sticks to itself.
- Cutting out the pieces
- These pieces were really pesky to handle. You need at least three hands, preferably six.
- The Queen showing mid-way progress
- The Queen with the finished article – cool, huh?
Looks lovely but definitely a team activity. Thanks Icklesis!
I LOVE those stickers!
Do you think I’ve too old to have some?
Dawn, they won’t go with your bedroom.
Dawn, you’re definitely not too old for stickers. If those ones don’t match, just Google on wall stickers or wall decal. There are millions of the things available. But strangely pricey…
That was such fun getting stuck in (geddit?). Rather tricky but worth it for the result. Definitely a team activity and the Queen was even able to stick a few of the less tricky bits on herself which was nice.
Big Victorian vicarage – that takes me back. I spent my formative years in a massive rectory with huge ceilings. Three separate cellars and five attics. Heating was out of the question! I remember my mother being heartbroken when we had to move to a four-bedroom place! I’m sure your children will look back on it really fondly when they get older. It’s definitely one of the perks of the ‘job’. Stickers look great although probably not my colour!
Hi Tim. We are enjoying are Victorian vicarage – also with three rooms in the cellar and three big ones (derelict, of course) in the attic). Our heating solution is wood burning stoves, which are fantastic. I can’t believe you don’t like the pink! With the room sizes we’ve been able to go big on colour. Our churchwarden said the rooms were like Joseph’s coat.
