LOL I’ve been at this for years! I was pleasantly surprised in a small indy card shop to find I had a choice of Mothering Sunday cards ( you may have seen my tweets on the subject) but even then a couple spoiled it by putting Mother’s Day (sic) inside… cos that’s the other thing, if one is going to call it by the wrong name, at least get the grammar of the wrong name correct!! It’s a day for more than one Mother… so it is Mothers’ Day !!!… ( I suppose one could reflect that it is indicative of the singular self focussed, individualised post -modern society that the day could only be about the one mother of the person thinking about it. but that’s a philosophical point too far for on this one I fear!!)
great cartoon! hadn’t seen that one 😀
I just found ‘Mothering Sunday’ cards in Boots – and no mention of Mother’s Day, either. Result!
It’s a bit like Baptism as opposed to Christening. I’m sure my father never conducted a Christening service but try telling that to almost everyone and they don’t believe you!
As for cards I always keep it simple by buying one that is blank inside.
Hi Tim. I just had a long chat with someone the other day, explaining that baptism and ‘christening’ were the same thing. And that Christians don’t refuse blood transfusions (what are children learning in schools these days?!).
Cunning idea on the cards.
